Note the designation K1-17 (K one) in the model name versus KI-17. If its called a Ground Box, that would might suggest it supports airborne crypto equipment.
According to the placard at the NCM, "the K1-17 is capable of software updatable cryptographic device selection. It's interoperable with old and new systems and is EKMS (Electronic Key Management) compatible".
