Secure Handset No. 8

This secure voice handset was used in the UK  in official buildings and residences from WW2 up until the 1960s.

Secure Handset. This is the handset and cradle only. It had to be used with a Privacy Unit box as shown below.  The Privacy Unit was made by several manufacturers .

Main view of the Privacy Unit  No. 8 showing the Inversion board in the swung open position.  The markings on the chassis indicates the connections that are to be made with both the handset unit and the telephone line. Earlier (vacuum tube) versions  were used during WWII II but the No 8 unit dates from 1955 and it's solid state.
