Pictured is Jerry Proc VE3FAB at the station controls in the late 1990's. With the advent of the Internet, there is little or no time for amatuer radio. The KW2000 transceiver is now gone and replaced with a Heathkit SB104.

KW-2000 transceiver.
Although gone from my shack now, I thought I would leave the KW-2000 specifications here. The now defunct K.W. Electronics of Dartford England distributed a line of amateur gear in North America during the 1960's and 1970's. One product was the KW-2000. This 23 tube transceiver has a power output of 180 watts PEP on SSB and 150 watts on CW in the 160/80/40/20/15/10 meter bands. The rig is equipped with IRT (Incremental Receiver Tuning) and is probably one of the few rigs of its era that supported ITT (Incremental Transmitter Tuning). Several point of annoyance is the small frequency dial and the range of the 40 meter band. By default, 40 meters tunes from 7100 to 7300 khz. To operate in the 7000 to 7100 KHz band, a crystal must be swapped so you have to decide ahead of time as to which portion of the band to operate on. This rig also uses a very difficult to find 6CH6 RF driver tube.

The workbench can be as simple or as sophisticated as you want to make it. At least half of the test gear on this bench is of the vacuum tube variety and is adequate to get the job done.
